Our Story
The legal system wasn't built for you. We were.
nu:legal is built by people who've watched founders, HR leads, and ops teams get priced out of basic legal help — and decided to fix it.
It started with frustration.
Our founder, Bork Morfaw, spent years as an employment lawyer at Freshfields, working on legal tech and GenAI initiatives. He kept noticing the same pattern. Friends and fellow founders kept hitting the same wall: pay thousands for simple legal advice, or navigate complex legal minefields alone. Most legal tech was being built to help lawyers work faster. Nobody was building the legal front door for businesses themselves.
So at the start of 2025, he left to build it. He launched LegalGPT as proof of concept. It became the #1 Legal GPT in Europe — 200,000+ users and featured in Wirtschaftswoche.
LegalGPT proved the demand. It also exposed the limits of generic AI for legal work: hallucinations, no specialist accountability, no German legal depth. That insight became nu:legal.
Who's behind it.
nu:legal is built by people who've sat on both sides of this problem.
The lawyers know what good legal work looks like — and what it costs to deliver it the old way. They left traditional firms because they believed legal help could be done better, faster, and for more people.
The engineers and designerswanted to build something at the edge of what's possible — not another wrapper around general-purpose AI. They build systems that hold up under the rigor legal work demands.
What brings the team together: a shared frustration with bureaucracy, and the belief that European businesses shouldn't have to choose between affordable legal help and good legal help.
Our principles
What we believe.
Generic AI isn't good enough for legal work.
Custom-built systems, built with specialists, are the only honest way to do this.
Lawyers aren't the problem.
They're part of the solution. We build with them, not around them.
Speed and quality aren't opposites.
Most legal work is slow because the system is slow — not because the work itself requires it.
Trust is earned in the small things.
Showing our work. Telling you when you need a lawyer. Standing behind what we build.
Legal help shouldn't be a luxury.
Most businesses can't afford traditional legal services. That's a system failure, not a customer problem.
